Safekids.ai - startup
Safekids.ai builds software to keep kids safe online using AI and a framework we designed based on behavioral science principles.
At Safekids, I designed all the products, presentations, brand representations, marketing, and the website. The software is still available. Our co-founder has handed the work off to his kids and open sources the software.
We engaged in Primary Research by interviewing educators, parents, and children. Our Secondary Research involved reading hundreds of articles on child safety and robust competitive analysis. This all led us to the development of a cohort of people involved in online child safety, rather than a more simplistic set of personas.
We leveraged AI with a framework we designed called PRR, Pause, Reflect, & Redirect. When a child attempts to access negative or inappropriate content, our software intercepted them. We prompted them with a brief question to get them thinking about what they're trying to do, and reflect whether they should or not. Given the choice, most kids (80% according to our stats) would simply go back.
This toolset provided a strong value proposition to our potential customers.
Our first product was software for middle school children and our target customers were schools and districts with at least 5k students.
Educators had interfaces to observe and monitor students. Only children who were persistent needed to be monitored as 80% would get intercepted and simply turn around to get back on task.
Our system would notify staff and parents for children engaging with content that was potentially harmful to either themselves or others.
We worked on dozens of videos to communicate the value proposition, features, and interactions of Safekids.ai. I created many myself and art directed the rest including the one above.
